Is contemporary art practice more about celecrity than actual art these days?
Is contemporary art practice more about celecrity than actual art these days?
I think it is but im interested in other peoples views and how they percieve it
Artists need an audience, and it is sadly true that there is a star system for artist that rewards celebrity.
That said, if you look carefully you will see that there are artists who have made their way forward over time based on the merit of their work. Chuck Close seems to be a good example of this.

Travel smart: Rare art from Keith Haring
The provocative art of Keith Haring from his early years is on display at the Contemporary Arts Center of Cincinnati through Sept. 5. The only U.S. stop for the show focuses on the years 1978-82, as Haring gradually became famous. Some works have never been exhibited before. Haring died in 1990.
