what made Socrates hated by the Athenians during his time?
I understand that most people durimg Socrates time had truly hated him considering the fact that "according to the Greeks" he was corrupting the minds of the youth. What could this teaching be that made the Greeks had this upheaval of corrupting the minds of the youth in his time? Was it all about sex? If it so, whats wrong about it? Athens as the center of arts in ancient world became known of their masterpieces like the "THe Discuss Thrower" and "Venus de Milo". I know for a surety that both works of arts are nude sculptures. It shows the inner most parts of human masculinity and femininity. So, I would like to be more enlightened why Socrates was put to death because of this reason alone.
He was sentenced to death for his contrariness and tendency to question all authorities without offering any constructive suggestions. He taught philosphy to the youth for free and won their loyalty, especially with his rebellious questioning of all in power, especially the religious. Like cults of today, this cult-like loyaty led to his charge of corruption of the youth and crimes against the cities religion. He accepted the death sentence and drank the hemlock surround by his followers, thus making himself a martry for his own cause.
