Does anybody know of Sculpture mediums that would be helpful for this...?
I am currently enrolled in school, and a lot of art classes at that. I am in a sculpture advanced class, and I am on my final project.
I am making a I guess statue type of object roughly about 4"5'"x2". It is a very delicate type of statue and I am interested in sculpting with exacto knifes and actually making him with my hands more than paper mache and things of that sort. I am interested in less expensive mediums that can mold and not harden in a short period of time (like clay would). I need to do this project over a period of 2 months, so it needs to be low maitence. Also I do not have a oven for clay or anything. So it needs to dry naturally or easier than that.
Have any suggestions in mediums?
Try carving plaster of paris. It is an inexpensive material available at many hardware stores and building supply stores. A waxed paper carton that milk or juices are sold in will make a good form to create a block of plaster to carve. Ideally an old pocket knife can be used. I say old because the plaster will dull the blade. As a matter of fact the dull blade is preferable. Also a locking blade is good for safety reasons. Information concerning mixing plaster can be found on the internet,as well as information about carving it. Once completed the finished work can be sealed with several coats of shellac or even painted. But it will break easily so handle with care. Good luck and have fun.
Chicken Boy: A Highland Park love story
When she first encountered him 30 years ago perched atop a restaurant downtown, Amy Inouye had little idea that she would become the eventual owner of the 22-foot-tall fiberglass statue of a man-fowl hybrid known affectionately as Chicken Boy.
