What are some simple techniques to paint abstract with acrylic paint?
A way I did a few years ago is quite fun for things like rocks. Get 3-4 colours of paint and put large blobs (as in: dollops) of them touching each other over the area you want to do. Get a clean, dry, pointed paintbrush. Put it in one colour and drag it through the others. Repeat quite a lot, and you'll get this lovely swirly texture.
Hints (from experience):
Drag it in all directions, otherwise you end up with a band of plain colour that you can't get rid of, and it looks horrible.
It takes ages to dry - at least three days.
It's impossible to paint over, so be careful.
You only have about fifteen minutes before the top layer of paint starts drying and won't drag through so well any more, so don't take a break in the middle of it.
If you use black, don't use much otherwise it'll overpower the whole thing.
Experiment on scrap paper/cardboard/whatever first.
